[The Write Stuff] By Debbie Galante
Dapo Torimiro may be an unfamiliar name, but if his current hot streak continues, that won’t be the case for long. The Nigerian-born artist – who’s been compared to Stevie Wonder and Seal as a performer – got his first big break last fall by placing the song “Quickly,” a duet featuring John Legend and Brandy, on Legend’s current album Evolver. On the heels of that release came David Archuleta’s self-titled debut album, featuring Dapo’s “Running.” Brandy’s album Human, released in December, also featured a Torimiro song, “Torn Down.” In additino to working on a solo album and doing film scores (Christmas at Water’s Edge), Torimiro expects to have songs on future releases form Fantasic and Elliott Yamin as well.
